Don't have a site to analyze? Why not analyze this site :)
Welcome to Seota

The goal of Seota is to help you understand your website or sites from an SEO perspective. What is meant by SEO is not always clear. In general SEO is the process of tailoring the content and meta-content of your site so that search engines can more "accurately" promote links to your site when users search for relevant and related keywords. Undoubtedly, many people will disagree with this assertion and that's okay. It's likely that these people want to ascribe more responsibility to the mechanics of SEO, but at Thumble Monks we tend to think of any broadening of this term to be entering into the realm of internet marketing at-large. SEO is a marketing tactic, not the other way around.

To begin using Seota, simply provide a domain name in the entry box above labeled "Enter Domain". Once you click Analyze, Seota will start by searching for the sitemap or sitemaps associated with the site. Seota will try to find a sitemap using the following heuristics:

  1. Check the robots.txt file for Sitemap entries
  2. If no robots.txt file or Sitemap entries defined within one, look for a sitemap.xml file
  3. If no sitemap.xml file, look for a sitemap.txt file
If no sitemap can be found, Seota will not move on; thus, hinting at a problem about your site from an SEO perspective. When Seota does have a Sitemap to work with, it will allow you to analyze each of the pages listed within it on a case-by-case basis.

Analyzing a Page

Page analysis consists of the following checks:

  • Check for presence and length of the title tag
  • Check for presence and length of the description META tag
  • Check for presence and length of the keywords META tag
  • A listing of links not including the title attribute
  • A listing of images not including the alt attribute
  • Allow you to see the keyword density of words showing up in the content more than 1% of the time*
  • Allow you to see the keyword density of two conjoining words showing up in the content more than 1% of the time*
  • * - Seota will exclude many of the most common words before calculating density

Still to come for Seota are many, many checks. We have a lot in mind, but we would love for you to let us know what you would like added. This tool is your tool. TBD: how to get ahold of us. Keep an eye on our TODO for features we think we want to add.
